Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

We went here for New Years, the food was really good, and they had some good wine and martini's. Both of our dinners were good, and their house salad dressing was very good, which you can buy in qt sizes to take home. Over all a good experience, we will be going back.

This is by far the worst location I have ever attempted to dine at. Our waiter was clearly new to waiting tables at this establishment, which is fine, he was patient and efficient but his manager and fellow staff made the restaurant a very awkward and uncomfortable setting to be in. There are 7 of us dining, celebrating my brother's birthday and we have had terrible service by the manager and supporting staff. My sister ordered the lobster ravioli and bit into two large pieces of shells, the waiter informed us that he couldn't remove the plate without bringing the issue to a manager's attention, the manager never came to the table and the waiter removed her plate and got her her new entree. Not too long after we finished our entrees, as the waiter was clearing our plates, he dropped a knife off the edge of a plate onto my brother in law's dry clean only suit coat, he kindly asked for the manager's name and number for the dry cleaning bill, as is appropriate if it were to have happened anywhere else, and again, the manager was made aware of the situation and he still did not come to the table. You receive a free cannoli for your birthday and as we witnessed the waiter bringing out his complementary desert plate with a lot candle, another waiting that was standing by, obviously blocking his path, very noticeably giving him a hard time, blows out the lit candle. Our entire dinner party witnessed this man blow out the candle, sharing his germs on food intended for us patrons to eat. This is highly inappropriate behavior for a restaurant of this caliber. After my sister had to leave the table to get the manager's attention, she explained the issues we had and as he removed the contaminated plate of cannoli, he rolled his eyes at our table, once again, apparent enough for all to see. This is not the service I expect to receive from anyone, ANYWHERE! The waiter, Charlie delivered the best service he could, it's very obvious that he is not receiving the proper and necessary training from the way the his coworkers and even his manager were treating him. I will not be returning to this location until I'm informed of major staff changes. The manager John wouldn't even make it as a McDonalds manager. I'm appalled and wish any patrons much luck if they come here. The Canton location is far superior, and I will gladly make the 20 mile drive any day, instead of the 7 miles to this location.

I had my first (and last) meal at Antonio's (Farmington Hills) last night. I ordered a pretty basic dish, spaghetti with marinara sauce. It was just about the worst spaghetti I have ever had. The pasta was .... it's hard to describe. Sort of gooey, sort of hard, definitely sticky. I had PLENTY leftover but frankly, it went in the trash when we got home. What a waste of money. Our server was friendly and efficient, though, so there's that. Also! The tile area leading back to the restrooms was VERY slick (I was wearing dress shoes with a rubbery heel); I nearly fell a few times getting there and back.

My husband and I absolutely love this place. From the bread to the sald, to the pizza to the pasta dishes. We have yet to be disatisfied. Prices are reasonable especially for the portions they give. The catering prices are awesome too!

We were always excited to go to Antonio's every time we came here from California. After this last experience we will be trying other Italian restaurants in the area. We were truly disappointed with the cold meal. When the meal was returned the chicken and veal was tough as if they microwaved the food. They definitely did not re-fire the order. They even sent back a partially chewed piece of chicken on one plate.

This place needs to be renamed cut-corners cucina. My family ordered carry out and boy did we make a mistake. What a disappointment. To start, $45 dollars for three pasta dishes, one of the cheapest foods in the world, was a little excessive. Yes, the pasta is homemade but still that's crazy. When I got home with the food and took a look I was appalled by how pathetic my ravioli with meat sauce looked. They gave me 7 small squares of ravioli and the tiniest amount of meat? (Explained below) sauce I have ever received at an Italian restaurant. It was about a tablespoon of sauce. The amount of bread they gave us was triple the size of my main dish. I called the restaurant to complain and the manager was condescending and unwilling to offer a fix. He said "you will have to deal with it." My dish was as disappointing in tastes as it was in appearance. One of the dishes was hot but the other two were cold. The ravioli were skimpy in the amount of meat in them, it was basically eating squares of just pasta. The sauce, which was called "meat sauce" on the menu, had maybe 3 little pieces of ground beef and the rest was all tomato. The whole meal was weak and generic tasting. I would rather eat at Olive Garden (gross) then eat food from here. Clearly Antonio is trying to make as much profit as possible at his customer's expense. Beware.

I went there about a month ago with a good friend of mine and had the lasagna. I must say it was by far the BEST LASAGNA I have ever had! I thought my mom's lasagna was the best boy was I wrong. This is the first time I have ever been to this restaurant. We also got the stuffed mushrooms and I was in heaven. The place is great for atmosphere and I noticed walking in that they have a noodle making shop. Many of the dishes use the fresh noodles that they make at the restaurant. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars for me is that when I was ordering the wine off the menu the server did not have much knowledge as to what wine would pair best with it. Perhaps that is my downfall because I don't know either. He was very friendly and made no mistakes. I will definitely be going back again and again. I love italian food and I'm not sure I know of any places that are better. Truly.

Third visit here and very underwhelmed. Good soup and good bread. Entrees need work especially when their marinara sauce is watery, and their chicken marsala is not the best. Their house wines taste like swill, and their wait staff is so so. Sat there for quite a while waiting for a waiter, took my order gave me my soup and bread, left the room and didn't seem to come back for a very long time.Their lunch menu looks like their dinner menu with no price breaks at all and still large portions. I keep believing the next trip back will be better, hasn't been so far! Maisanos on Novi Road far out weighs Antonios in every aspect of Italian.
(2)Haroun K.
Tonight the pasta was very, very tasty. The salad was fresh. But the tiramisu? It was frosty, as in fresh out of the freezer frosty. Not cool (well, literally cool, but figuratively uncool).
(3)Arianna C.
I have been going to this place for the past few years and I love it. I frequent this place. The service is always great and if they keep you waiting a while they compensate you. Not regularly is it an entire business that respects and understands customer service. Also, try the mostaccolli [spell check] . ;)
(5)Eric S.
Food is consistently decent. Bathrooms are consistently DISGUSTING (I can only speak for the men's room). My family goes there at least once a month but we avoid the bathrooms like the plague. I hope there kitchen is cleaner than the bathrooms; gross! Update; my latest experience was for an early dinner with a party of 6. Two of us arrived early and requested the table, this was 5:30 and there were maybe 5 tables of people already eating which left at least 20 or more tables open. The lanky, sloppy "Bieber haired" host told the 2 of us who arrived early that he could not seat us until the whole party was there. Are you serious? 20 empty tables? Ridiculous! Needless to say this kind of rubbed us all the wrong way- it might be a while before we go back.

I can't say enough about the food at Antonio's. It is amazing. Seriously, it's crave-worthy. I dream about the bread. The chicken pastina soup is delicious. And every entree I've had there has been really delicious. My favorites are the Covatelli Bolognese and the Vegetarian Lasagna. The pizza is also very good. My husband has not enjoyed the chicken dishes as much, but I've never tried them. As for the service, it's really hit or miss. There is one server in particular who is excellent. He is friendly and gives impeccable service every time. On the other hand, there are one or two servers who cause us to cringe when we are seated at their tables. They are slow, slow, slow. One time in particular, my husband and I went there for a late lunch and there were literally two other tables of customers at the time. Our server was only responsible for our table, and our lunch still lasted an hour and 15 minutes. It wasn't because we wanted to linger, it was because every time we requested something, it took him 5 to 10 minutes to deliver. Our check sat on the table with our credit card peeking out for 10 minutes, waiting for him to come pick it up. I saw a review commenting on the state of the bathrooms, and I've never had any problems with them. The women's bathroom has always been clean enough. Overall, this is one of my husband's and my favorite restaurants, solely because the food is so excellent.

Great quality food at Antonio's. The Chicken Antonio is like dessert for an entree. The sauce is so rich and creamy. There is usually quite a wait. Our last two visits to Antonio's has been comical thanks to the very young staff at the front. When the host asked for my husband's name and he replied "Jack" the host asked how it was spelled - and he was serious. Did I mention that they were young? Maybe immature and inexperienced is a better description. Our last visit our host was seating us and picked up one of the glasses on the table, looked closely at it and then shook his head in disgust and walked away. In all honesty, this is not meant to be a negative review because these things did not ruin our meal nor the experience, it was simply comical. I think it's fair to assume that the students at the front may be studying some form of drama or performing arts. They like to entertain each other and make it known to the customers that there can be dramatic events that take place when seating us and working with the waitstaff. This was all observed thanks to the somewhat lengthy wait for a table. It is understood that this is not a fast food venue or an in-and-out restaurant. It's worth the wait and the waitstaff has been wonderful. Hilda was very courteous and although she was busy, she took the time to be personable and attentive. You really can't go wrong with the food and they make good strong drinks too!

I had eggplant parmigiana here, and it was a big mistake. My dining companions who had some of the freshly made pasta really enjoyed their meals. The eggplant was terrible. The portion that I was served tasted as if it had freezer-burn. Seriously. I should have stayed home and eaten a frozen dinner. I did try the pasta, and it was very good. I would recommend ordering any of the pasta dishes. The bread that they brought to the table was also very good.
(3)Debbie L.
Excellent service, setting, and food. Clean, but the bathroom could use a touch up. :-)
(5)Sarah B.
Yet again, another date night restaurant with the BF. He has a thing for Italian food and this place is literally two blocks from his house. And I'm going to agree with pretty much all the other reviews, the bread is fantastic. Warm, garlicky, deliciousness packed into roll form. You could make a meal out of the bread and meat sauce. Yum. We split the polenta appetizer with sausage and meat sauce. I really like it, but he wasn't crazy about it. Apparently for polenta, you either like it or you don't. Anywho, I ordered the vegetable lasagna and we got the linguini arrabiata. Both were delicious. There was a nice mix of vegetables and plenty of cheese. Their arrabiata sauce is great and it's the bf's new favorite. I only wish we saved room for dessert, because there was a gorgeous looking cannoli on display.
(4)Justin M.
This is the bottom line. Great food for a great price. The bread is absolutely wonderful (try not to fill up before your meal). This place has some of the best lasagna I have ever had. Very cheesy with a ton of flavor. If you are looking for very good italian food at a great price then this is your place.
(4)Mary N.
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I ordered several dishes form Antonio's for my daughters graduation party and I was VERY disappointed. First of all, the Chicken Antonios was as tough as shoe leather .IT WAS NOT FRESH AT ALL!! Secondly, the roasted potatoes were under cooked and had NO FLAVOR . Thirdly, and the pasta was so dry it had very little meat sauce and there was a ton of dry pasta-. I was so embarrassed for my guest who hardly ate any of the food. Later that evening we ordered Pizza because we were still hungry.
(1)John H.
The absolute worst Italian food I have ever had. I ordered chicken parmigiana and to what i could tell it was microwaved. I would have rather eaten at Olive Garden and I am not even a fan of that place. The only thing worth eating is the bread they give you. Met our waitress twice, once when she took our order and the other to pick up our bill. We saw her all night although she decided texting or facebooking was a much more constructive use of her time. I should have been clued in on the quality of service when we walked into the door and they had a small group of employees and what seemed to be a manager having a laugh and acknowledging we were waiting to sit but continued to chat and when they finally took us to our seat the host never even welcomed us he continued to talk to his friends. Went once and I will never return
(1)Mike T.
Great, hearty italian food! The best garlic rolls and their house dressing for salads is very good...great for dipping the garlic rolls in. Their best dish....gnoochi with meat sauce!
(4)JP C.
I can not argue on the value to quality at this location. The Osso Bucco would be my go to dish here. The servings are wonderful and mostly the staff is accommodating and knowledgeable. I did have a problem with the owner who spoke rather stern, almost contemptuous when we questioned why we were not seated when we had made a reservation. When spoken to in that way it is hard to enjoy a meal, even when he came back and ask how everything was. For the food and service I would give four stars. However with the attitude projected by the owner I could never recommend to anyone.
(2)Cal S.
Good Italian food at a decent price. They have a magician one mid-week night (Wed or Thur, but call to check).
(4)R G.
This was our second time here and they have been consistently good. The bread is amazing, just as all the yelpers have stated. The ambience is comfortable, and the service is excellent. There is a pizza special on Monday night and a pasta special on Tuesday nights that are great values. They can get busy so be prepared to wait - sitting at the bar sharing a bottle of wine while you wait for your table is a nice way to pass the time. I know a little bambino slept tight last night with a belly full of pizza and salad : )
(4)Cheryl M.
Great place for dependable wholesome Italian Food! Great pizza, I love the cheese Ravioli! Bread and salads A+. reasonably priced and great service.... relax and enjoy... My comfort food Chicken soup that is good for the soul!
(5)Melanie J.
I have been craving Italian food, which rarely ever happens and was meeting up with a friend for dinner who lives in the WB. I remembered my sister raving about the bread here (like almost all of the other reviews!), so we decided to check it out. I was a little surprised to find Antonio's hanging out in a strip mall, but that doesn't bother me. The ambiance was nice, but a little cheesy maybe? There were other tables filled, but we got in without a wait and there were plenty of tables available (it was during the week though). We were first seated in one of those half moon booths which I find really awkward when sitting there with a party of two, so we moved to a normal shaped booth right by the front of the restaurant. The staff was super attentive and came over a lot to make sure we were happy and give us refills. The menu is huge and has so much to choose from! I settled on gnocchi in pesto and my friend got lasagna. The dinner salads were pretty tasty and that bread was pretty delicious. I didn't eat much though because I needed to save room for pasta! The gnocchi were great! But very rich. I had a hard time getting through even a third of the dish. My friend was a little disappointed with the lasagna. There was so much cheese that it took several bites to find the pasta part. The portions were HUGE. We easily could have split an entree and still walk out with left overs! I had an enjoyable time at Antonio's and although I probably wouldn't make a trip out there from Royal Oak, I would gladly dine there again if I'm in their 'hood.

We were in the mood for a nice, relaxing Italian dinner last night and wanted to try something different. I read all the reviews to get a balanced view of a restaurant and assumed this was a good choice. In business a long time, family owned etc..... We were seated pretty quickly. Several waitresses walked by without acknowledging us.After 10 minutes I was ready to walk out when the waitress came to take our order. She was very friendly and offered a few suggestions. Bread arrived quickly (pretty good) I asked for suggestions and the waitress said the chicken piccata was excellent with a great sauce. Sides came and my salad was mediocre with a decent vinaigrette. The other order was a flavorless pasta fagioli. One order of chicken piccata and one gnocchi with meat sauce arrived. This was the worst chicken piccata I have ever had! Thick pieces of chicken with a glutinous sauce. Not a hint of lemon. Let's say it was a lot of cornstarch and no lemon to give you an idea. The gnocchi was compared to the Trader Joe's brand and lost ( this is supposed to be freshly made pasta ) with watery meat sauce. My friend asked to send the gnocchi back and the waitress said that she would get the manager. I planned on keeping my meal just because I did not want to return both dinners. The manager came to our table and removed the gnocchi. After that we waited and never saw our waitress again. I asked the manager what happened and was told she had a large party to deal with. So she drops her other tables? That did it for me. I told the manager I would pay for my meal but we would never return. He took my meal off, I paid for our drinks and left a small tip. I am a very easy customer and tip well. All I ask is decent service and if I ask for a suggestion the staff knows the menu. This waitress made a terrible meal even worse. Will definitely not be returning.

Yum yum yum....the food is delicious here especially the bread...OMG. If you start, you won't stop. Don't say I didn't warn you. It's priced on the moderate to just above moderate side but the food quality is worth it. One day I hope to try the pizza. There are just too many things to try and they're all good.
(4)Alexandra K.
I dined here last night for the third time and although the food is not excellent, it's nothing to pass over, either. I love whole wheat pasta, so when a restaurant offers that, they immediately win me over. More so, the bread they serve prior to serving entrees is wonderful (mm garlic). The quality of the pasta was incredible. I've never had whole wheat pasta that wasn't the grainy, and Antonio's offered me just that, a smooth, wholesome pasta dish. My cousin ordered the veal and was less than satisfied, however, they are known for their pasta, not their meat. My grandfather, however, swears by their veal chops. He and my grandmother ordered baked dishes (he ordered baked spaghetti, she ordered eggplant parmesan) and were more than satisfied. Over all, when taking into account the cuisine and environment (this includes the waitstaff) I'd highly recommend Antonio's.
(5)Sari G.
Best Italian food I know of. The bread is amazing. Good atmosphere and lunch specials. Always busy.
(5)Theresa U.
My bf's parents love this place. Having Italian blood, they are awfuly picky on where to go. I went here for a 'meet the parents' dinner. The waitstaff was excellet. We had fresh bread rolls brought out to us. They were warm and soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The ministrone soup was good. I tried the eggplant parm for the first time. and OMG. was it good! The homemade sauce was very tasty. The portions were a good size too. Had enough for lunch the next day. We were all happy with our meals. This review got 4 stars because of location. It's in a strip mall. Food this good deserves a better location.
(4)Alex G.
I frequent Antonio's with my girlfriend, and occasionally my family. I've tried a few different dishes, but found my favorite to be the cavatelli bolognese, and consistently order it visit after visit. As all the other reviews have already said, the bread is absolutely fantastic. If you are a fan of pizza, it's delicious here as well. The service is usually great. The biggest issue with the waiters is how they are split between the restaurant. There have been a few instances where I was the only table on one side of the restaurant that my waiter was serving, while the rest of his tables were on the opposite side, leaving my table slightly neglected. However, we were never left without water because there are servers dedicated to keeping your glass full, and you happy that You won't find yourself disappointed with your experience at Antonio's.
(4)Vince B.
The food is ok but the bread is outstanding, I think they must sprinkle it with crack because last time I was here I almost ate 2 baskets of the stuff.
(3)Christine R.
One of the first things you see walking into Antonio's is a little room on your right, with walls of glass and someone hand making pasta. What a great way to set the mood for your meal! I have never had a problem getting a table at Antonio's, and they are quite accommodating to groups. The food has never disappointed me... from the delicious bread to start to the very fresh pastas and desserts, I always leave with a happy belly. On more than one occasion, Antonio has come to the table to make sure that we were satisfied with our meal and service. I have never had a bad thing to say. The last star is lost in the layout and decor of the restuarant.... there are so many places that are more romantic and Italian feeling to visit.
(4)Andrea D.
Now that I know this place, the strip mall part of the equation doesn't even phase me. The bread is absolutely the best part of the experience.....warm and yummy inside and a little bit crispy on the outside. I love that they have some whole wheat pasta options. Their eggplant parmesan is primo! Their salads and chicken pastina soup are also big hits.
(3)G T.
i like it better then the one in Dearborn
(5)jason j.
So it's not high-class Italian, however Antonio's has pasta's, soups and meat's like your mom used to make. I believe this is one of their smaller restaurants seats plenty however you will normally find a dinner crowd here waiting for a table so get there early. and the endless bread basket wins me over!
(4)Jay R.
So good! This place serves super delicious Italian food in a nice atmosphere. Outside the busy streets of 12 Mile and Halsted comes this Italian restaurant tucked into a strip mall. My waitress cut my pizza for me and was super kind! The food has a perfect taste as well.
(5)Jason M.
What happened? This place use to be great. I should have known something was wrong when no one was waiting and half full at 6 on a Saturday night. Normally always super crowed waiting area and a wait. Service was good and re bread amazing as always. Calamari Limone was pretty good and basic. My Veal Piccata was like chewing jerky, the sauce was good but veal rough. Worst think have ever had and use to be great here. Ended up eating more of my kids pizza than my dish. The Mostaccioli Casseruola wasn't a good as use to be so and being so basic not sure how could mess up. Use to be delicious mmmm. Hopefully just an off night.
(3)Rhonda L.
Great pasta. Great sauces Even the Caesar salad was great. And the bread was irresistible The portions are huge It has the ambiance of an upscale Italian restaurAnt but not the prices. What else could you want from an Italian restaurant !
(5)Allen L.
I hadn't been here in probably 10 years and went for a private party. Was totally impressed. First and foremost was the FRESH pasta. There's just nothing like it. Lunch for 30 people was served with first-rate waiting. I like everything and will come back to try some different pasta and others from the extensive menu.
(5)Kathy G.
Went to Antonios for the first time on Saturday. Wonderful food, wonderful service, very homey feel. Manager John stopped by our table and was very gracious.
(5)Sarah K.
I went here for lunch. This quaint little place was beautiful and welcoming. Unfortunately the service SUCKED. After I was served my dishes the waitress did not stop by once. I actually had to ask the busboys twice to bring me my check and wait 20 minutes for it to finally arrive. There were only 2 other tables apart from mine so this wait was unacceptable. As for the food it was okay, nothing fantastic. To begin the "wonderful" bread that everyone was raving about was served rock hard COLD so I had a difficult time chewing. For the appetizer I got the Caalamari Lemone which was SALTY as heck. As for the entree, I ordered the Mastaciolli Rita with a free side of chicken rice soup. The soup was boring and the pasta was decent. The pasta portion however was huge so I had to take more than half of it to go. I wanted to taste one of their desserts but had run out of patience to wait a minute (more like tens of minutes) longer. My total lunch tab was a few cents over $20. Not bad for an Italian meal.
(2)Suvro S.
Good atmosphere with decent italian cuisine. i was expecting much more authentic food though.
(4)Jill H.
If we're not cooking our own Italian food, this is our go-to restaurant for the closest thing to homemade. LOVE their carbs - that is, their homemade pasta and garlic bread sticks. My favorite dish is probably the eggplant parmesan but my family and I also enjoy the bolognese and tortellini. Their chicken parm is pretty good but I prefer thinly sliced chicken as opposed to a full chicken breast, this is where we excel at home cooking ;) As with most Italian restaurants in metro-Detroit for some reason, they have great ranch dressing!
(4)Sarah M.
Nothing special about this location..The food took really long to come out, service was good. Compared to the Antonios on ford road this place really does suck. Shrimp Alfredo was really oily, cheese ravioli tasted like it was just heated up from hours ago.. All the servers working in the section I was in looked like they hate their job, didn't smile whatsoever. Honestly won't be back.
(2)Sandi S.
A must for Italian food, bread was great and the calamari limone is the best we have had. We were their for lunch, service was also excellant
(5)Sarah B.
Yum yum. Best pasta around, hands down. They make all of their pastas from scratch and you can most definitely tell. My father-in-law's favorite dish is gnocchi with Rita sauce. I love their ravioli- it's the best. Their homemade garlic bread is yummy. Service is top notch.
(5)Ardis S.
Antonios is a family favorite for a quick casual dinner or a large gathering. Good never disappoints. I recommend the restaurant whole heartily.
(4)Brian V.
Amazing pasta and bread. I had the chicken antonio w/fettuccine Alfredo sauce, my son had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and he says it out scores Olive Garden, no destroyed Olive Garden. On top of the great food the service was outstanding never had a dry glass on the table and food came out piping hot.
(5)Tacarra L.
I've been eating at their original restaurant, Roman Village for years, and I often go to this Antonio's for carry out and dining in. While the food is still good it has changed over the years. The marinara is different and has an overcooked, metal taste to it. I'm not sure if this is from a change in the ingredients or if this Antonio's in particular simply over cooks their sauce. Also, the service at this Antonio's is spotty at best. The servers are cold and unwelcoming and there seems to be a high turnover all the time. Also, the man who fills the waters never speaks or even breaks a smile and seems very unpleasant. I give this place 4 stars because the food is still delicious and as "authentic" as you can get in a restaurant without traveling downtown or to the eastside. The bread is to die for and the pizza is great.
(4)Julie V.
Holy jamole that's really sucked. The only thing that's lifting this place up is the bread and my waitress for the night who was perfectly charming. But other than that, the calamari was over breaded and garlicky as hell definitely one of the worst I have ever had. The salad at best was mediocre, and I ordered the spaghetti which should be the defining moment for any Italian restaurant and well...I could make better spaghetti than the one I just ate and I'm surprised I'm not on Worst Cooks In America. The spaghetti sort of reminds me of Chef Boyardee??? Same taste. Indigestion here I go. This is going to be fun. The pizza's supposed to be good so maybe I'll come back for that but I really don't think I am ever going back. Ever.
(2)Ann W.
Fresh, restaurant-made pasta and delicious bread are ingredients to a delicious meal. They are important ingredients but not the sole ingredients. On this visit, I was looking forward to a delicious lunch and the restaurant's famous bread. The bread lived up to my memories, pillows of goodness that was lovely with the olive oil and separately, the marinara sauce. The entrée however, was below average. While the pasta itself was lovely and the portion size was generous, the dish was dry and unappealing. Additionally, there was a disagreement with guests (and management) at another table that was disruptive to the rest of us.

You know you are about to experience some incredible eats for your palate when one of the first things you see at a restaurant is a woman inside a small "pasta factory" hand making the noodles you are about to eat. That is part of what makes the Rugiero family's restaurants noteworthy, but so does their bread, pizza & the finished product the noodles create. We frequent the Farmington Hills location and I am a creature of habit when I go there. I always, no matter what, order the Mostaccioli Casseruola (no meat to make it vegetarian). I honestly burn my tongue off each time because I can't wait to dive into that bubbly, cheesy dish. Each time, I leave with a carryout box stuffed with leftovers and a few pieces of that incredible bread for the next day. Their website says the average price is about $12. You get huge entrée portions that come with their amazing bread and the choice of soup or salad. Our go to location is the Farmington Hills restaurant and they have Wine Wednesday all you have to do is purchase 2 entrees and you get 1/2 off bottles of wine. The Rugiero family has been sharing their old family recipes since 1964. Their restaurants are known for their delicious bread, pizza, pasta & cannolis, but their authentic Venetian décor, casual environment and friendly service adds to the perfect Italian experience.

Had my baby shower here recently, and all my guests who have never been to this place raved about how good the food was. The manager was super helpful and so was the staff. Did I mention the bread sticks?! Amazing! I can seriously eat the entire basket when they bring it over. Their house dressing is delish, and they definitely do not skimp on their portions. I had their chicken parmesan and it took me about 3 days to finish it, it was HUGE! If you like Italian food, this is def the place to go.

We carried out tonight. One order of spaghetti with marinara sauce , and one order of gnocchi. Well, the spaghetti noodles were mushy, and there was only a dollop of sauce on the top! My daughter's gnocchi dish was tasteless. Salads were just a bunch of lettuce with 2 cucumber slices and 1 tomato slice. I'd like to hear back from the management as to why the meal was so lousy. And if they don't have a good reply, I'd urge other people to go elsewhere.

Wonderful service. 6.50 lunch special. Soup or salad and panini. There's is on more of a sub bun and is huge. Minestrone soup was very good and large bowl. But come for the hot buttery bread, even if for nothing else. Crowded at noon but we went at 11:30 and no problem.

Food is really, really good!!! Our family has been coming here for years. The bread is outstanding, as well as the gnocchi. The ambiance is nice and the staff is friendly. I left one star off because sometimes the service is questionable. Would absolutely recommend Antonio's to anyone!

Pretty boring pasta, but an extra star for the addictive bread that comes to the table. Maybe I should have gotten something other than marinara on my gnocchi, but they say you can judge a place by their standard "gravy" and this was lacking.

It's always good to see Italians in an Italian restaurant - especially on a late Sunday evening. I always forget how amazing the bread is here - light, fluffy and with a crisp outer shell. I ordered my now usual - the shell shaped pasta with bolognese sauce and my friend orders the florentine ravioli. The entrees came with a soup or salad. I got the chicken noodle soup and it was quite tasty especially with some additional Parmesan cheese sprinkled in it. My friend got the salad and immediately regretted not ordering a soup. The salad is very minimal and bare. My pasta dish was as amazing as I remembered the first time I had it. The little pasta were chewy and held the creamy tomato based sauce very well. I loved seeing how there was a bit of celery and fresh tomatoes incorporated in the sauce. The portion is HUGE and the price is very reasonable. The ravioli dish was also quite good - creamy sundried tomato and spinach sauce and stuffed with ricotta and spinach. The portion was pretty late and the pasta had good chew. Portion sizes are great - I came out with enough for lunch and a bit more. Love this friendly neighborhood joint and will definitely come back the next time I crave good homemade Italian food.

Our family stops in quite often. We always go on New Years Eve with friends. We get great service usually but it seems that during the busy times they are not quite prepared. Love the past, had a variety of dishes. Most times good is great. Bread is amazing.

Some of the best food you will ever eat. If you are swearing off carbs good luck with that because their bread is some of the best you will ever eat. They have the best eggplant Parmesan, but everything else I've ever gotten there has been good too. The only minor complaint is that sometimes the wait is a bit long if you don't get there at the right time. There have also been a few times when my server disappeared for a bit too long or weren't really on top of things. But they could probably still be extremely rude and I'd still go there for the bread.

Antonio's is one of the better Italian Restaurants around that won't break the bank when you get your check at the end of the meal. They make all of their pasta in house and they do it right up front in the lobby in a little room with giant windows so you can watch them. It is actually pretty neat if you are in to that kind of stuff. Everything I have had to eat off the menu has been very good, but the best thing they offer by far is their bread. It truly is something special. It is very hard to describe, but as soon as you have it you will understand what I am talking about. Kendra L. put it best by saying "It is a slice of heaven in your mouth." What makes this place so great is the quality of the ingredients. When the owner personally travels to Italy each year to hand pick the tomatoes he wants to use, you know they are offering up the best of the best. Also when someone like Andrea Bocelli let's you use their personal Carbonara recipe then you obviously know you are doing something right.

I have never had anything here that I did not like. They even have gluten free options.

Went there for lunch, but it would be a good dinner spot too. Our waiter was good, very seasoned with the drink refill thing. Pasta noodles are made at the restaurant so they taste very fresh. The soup was quite tasty and I didn't have it but the bread looked fresh and steamy good - my girlfriend said it was good. Not as expensive as you may guess either. I think my meal which came with soup or salad was $10 ish? Includes the bread. It is a little more than Olive Garden but way better.

Excellent food! *Bread is to die for *Meatballs are sooo tasty(the best meatballs I've ever had) *Spaghetti sauce is delicious without being too heavy *Salad is fresh, zesty and light *Ambiance is very nice The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because of the service. The waitress and manager did not make me feel welcome. The manager was present on the floor the whole time and spent a considerable about of time at just about every table except ours. He finally made it around, asked how the food was and when I said "Great!" And began to speak more he quickly said "good" and walked away. The waitress wasn't much warmer. I personally believe it may have been because my company and I weren't dressed especially nice and we look a lot younger than we are so we looked like a couple of bummy teenagers going into a nice, a little higher class establishment. That may not be it but that's the only thing I could think of and it's happened before.

I love this place. It is what is says it is -an Italian kitchen, They have the best bread of any restaurant . The pastas and sauce are very authentic. I love their gnocci with marinara sauce. Servers have always been nice.
(5)Daniel G.
Great food. Very friendly staff. Great bread and calzones. The prices were very reasonable. Part of the reason I'm writing this review is to make sure to go back to this place. Good stuff.

Delicious fresh authentic Italian food. I went at about 6:30p mon a Sunday and was seated immediately! Service was fast and professional. The pasta fejoul (sp?) soup was awesome too!

Quite surprised by the average 4 star rating of this place. The bread is good. The salad dressings are good. The pasta is very good, as it's made in-house.... but, aside from that, I'm not at all impressed with this place. I've been here several times because my husband loves a good ravioli and this is the closest place to home. However, the ambiance is off, the hostess staff doesn't even smile or welcome you when you walk in and they don't communicate with you while you're waiting for seating or a take out meal. Instead, they talk amongst themselves and sip on their drinks they have hidden behind the cash register. The last time I visited this place, they only gave me half of my order and didn't bother to come after me or call me to let me know. I called the manager to make a complaint and rather than apologizing, the first words out of his mouth were in defense of the staff. If you want good bread, there are other places out there with good bread. If you want good salad dressing - make your own or pick up your favorite one at the market! This place isn't worth your time or your hard-earned money... it's completely over-rated.

Absolutely love this place, I used to work down the road from there, and I spent a lot of my lunch breaks there. Great tasting food, great service... I cannot complain about their $5 lunch specials. Its just that good. A beverage, soup or salad, and a lunch course for $5.36? Hell yeah! Keep on rocking it out with the amazing tasting food. Oh, and dinner is also amazing here. Fresh homemade pasta.... the sauces are to die for... in fact, I'm sure my arteries would have issues if I lived closer to there. :)

I recently had the displeasure of dining here for a family gathering, per my grandfather's suggestion, most likely due to the proximity to his house. My expectations were low as I'm no fan of strip-mall Italian, but I tried to keep an open mind in case my half-Italian Gramps was on to something. Nope. The high point of the meal was the minestrone, which isn't saying much because it was served at room temperature and was insanely salty, but at least the pasta in it had a nice toothsome texture. My boyfriend opted for the salad instead of soup, and I knew I made the right choice when he was asked if he would like ranch or Italian. The salad was just some wilted leaf lettuce with a sad tomato chunk and institutional dressing. I always order gnocchi at Italian restaurants, and this was some of the worst I've had. It was hard, and cold. BF ordered the homemade ravioli florentine, which he thought was acceptable, I thought it was pretty bland. Nobody at the table finished their meals or made any positive comments. As for the supposedly amazing bread, it's just bread. I ate a few pieces because I was starving and I admit that it has a nostalgic quality to it; I remember a time when pretty much every restaurant used to offer a basket or warm, oily, garlicky bread upon your arrival, which I don't really see so often these days. Like the complimentary bread basket, the decor is also a throwback to the 1980s. Faux marble and bunches of plastic grapes adorn most surfaces. Our server was nice. I took my leftovers to go because I hate wasting food, but then I threw them out at a gas station because I realized that a night in the refrigerator would render the already hard gnocchi totally inedible. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it.

We walked in waiting to be greeted by a hostess who was walking up to the front complaining to a waitress and she wasn't any nicer when she saw us. She walked us to our booth (with the ripped seat) and said, "here" and walked away. The waitress was nice. The breadsticks were greasy and salty. The calamari was salty and undercooked. The calamari was served with tartar and cocktail sauce, I hate both, and we were charged $.95 for a side of marinara. I'm glad I chose to pay the extra dollar for the marinara because the seafood stuffed shells had a ton of salty ricotta cheese and the marinara helped improve my dish significantly. My husband really liked the spaghetti and meatballs (but you can't mess that up too much). The dinner entertainment included the restaurant manager at two waiters while sweeping the carpet and moving the table next to us. They were sure to cover the huge hole in the carpet which apparently has been there "for a long time." The entire place needs updating, from the ceiling to the floor, including the staff and menus.

The best bread ever. Seriously. It doesn't reheat very well, though...I just tried. I have past by here many, many times and am so sad I have never had the bread before. It is a slice of heaven in your mouth. Ok, so here is the low down on the food we had. Pasta figoli (yup, I spelled it wrong, I'm sure!), mac-n-cheese, pizza. I was there for my niece's birthday lunch and I had my girls with me. I only got soup, I wasn't very hungry. They absolutely LOVED the mac-n-cheese and pizza. The portions are CRAZY huge! The mac-n-cheese filled up my 7 year old for two meals and there were still some left overs! The pizza with soup filled up my other girls (8 and 5) for two meals as well. They were also quite fond of the bread ;-) I would never have considered going here, since it's in a strip mall and I do really like Olive Garden (I have a thing about clean kitchens, and there's certainly is. I worked at one for a while). BUT that being said, I am so glad I dragged here for a delicious meal! I will absolutely be back for the bread, and the other food too =)

The two things that were great were the soup and the bread.. The pasta fagioli was tasty and the pasta certainly fresh.. The bread was fantastic. Fresh, warm, buttery, with a hint of garlic. Great start. Where they really lost me was the main entree. I ordered the chicken parmesan. The dish wasn't very warm.. that aside, I started in with a few bites... This chicken did NOT taste freshly made.. You know the taste and texture of day old, reheated chicken? Yep, that's exactly what this tasted like... not appetizing or tasty at all. So much so that I only ate about 20% of the entree. For a $15 entree, I expect fresh.. There was nothing that tasted fresh about this chicken. I'd come in for the soup and bread any day of the week.. but the chicken parm.. I can make better with frozen pre-cooked chicken from Meijer.

Antonio's has the best Italian food in the area! They make their pasta fresh and they even have gluten free pasta. I love the gnocchi Rita the best and the bread and salad is great too. We have never had a bad experience at Antonio's. It is out favorite date restaurant!

We needed to set up a business dinner in the area and of course I "Yelped" the zip code to find appropriate places. I had never been to Antonios and I made the selection solely on the positive reviews. I liked what I ordered and I would go back again. I didn't order anything particularly exotic or challenging, but I did have a nice meal and a good service experience. I ordered the lasagna and a side of sausage. The lasagna was nice and cheesy and it had plenty of tasty meat sauce. The portion was large and the presentation was very nice. The sausage had a nice fennel taste and aroma and was a nice compliment to the lasagna. I also had a side salad and I enjoyed the bread that they served. My business associates had veal dishes and they enjoyed them. They too looked like ample portions and were presented nicely. A good deal all around.

Antonio's is my favorite Italian restaurant in metro Detroit. The combination of quality, value, and service simply cannot be matched. Sure there are other Italian restaurants with equally excellent food, but you'll likely pay 50% more than you have to. I have yet to find a Minestrone soup that can match Antonio's, and the fresh baked bread melts in your mouth, just perfect! The menu covers a wide range of dishes, from homemade pastas to pizza, veal, paninis and calzones, soups and salads. It is great for lunch or dinner, dine in or carry out. The service is always prompt and attentive, and your food usually arrives faster than you'd expect. You can order house wines by the glass, half carafe, or whole carafe which is great when you'd like a glass or two of wine without spending $40 for a bottle. They also have a full service bar and serve espresso and coffee along with a nice selection of desserts (try the canoli!). I really can't find anything negative to say about this place. If cost is no concern, I'm sure you can find better Italian food, but you really can't match Antonio's for value.

My husband had the spinach and ricotta ravioli with sun dried tomato and they were melt in your mouth good. I had the cannelloni and I would not recommend. My dish was over-baked and covered in cheese so I had to chisel it out. The salad is romaine lettuce and they offer either a house oil/vinegar or ranch. As an alternative soup is offered too. The bread basket is hot and garlic/buttered. Our waitress seemed to be poised to run a marathon and her delivery was rushed. Our friend had fettucini with white clam sauce and it had plenty of clams and looked very good- enough to take home for a second helping. The pasta is made on site so it is tender. That alone begs another visit.

Antonio's has pretty good food at a good cost ($10-$12 for an entree at dinner with soup or salad). The pasta is freshly made pasta and you can substitute pastas. There are very good options for vegetarians (mostly linguines but if you don't mind the cheese there is a vegetarian lasagna). The marinara sauce is pretty flavorful. I would still hope for more options labeled as low salt, low fat, suitable for vegetarians and vegans. There is gluten free pasta which is a plus. Nothing exceptional from a flavor standpoint and portions were average in size but it's still a nice place to go for a meal overall.

First been here sometime mid last year. Been to another Italian restaurant in between visits, but I must say that Antonio's has been my favorite. My husband and I went back for dinner last night and although more than a year had past, it's not difficult at all to figure out what made me fall in love with this place in the very first place. We started with their famous baked bread. Dipping it in the extra virgin olive oil, it was simply wonderful that I always find it easy to overdo it before the main meal is being served. I had the same pasta I had on my first visit here - the Spaghetti Carbonara "Alla Bocelli" with grilled chicken breast. I certainly could have made do without topping it with the grilled chicken breast - it was already so generously loaded with bacon and come to think of it, I probably did make the same mistake a year plus ago. Thumbs up to Antonio's to have amazingly retained the quality in their food over time - it tasted just how I remember tasting it the very first time - simply amazing. While the service has always been well if not great, there was a slight hiccup when we were there last night. We were seated at a table not fully set up with our cutlery and napkin not in view and we were left for a little too long before our orders were being taken. My husband ordered the Mostaccioli Rita Sauce but was mistakenly served the Linguine Delmar instead. But I must note here that our server was very apologetic indeed so while it could have been better, I would still think that they were too small a matter to get the night ruined. She offered to have our order corrected, but we decided that we could give that a try anyway. We could not be happier at the end of it - the seafood was nothing but at their tip-top freshness and together with the pasta, they made a lovely, great meal. The pasta also came with a choice of soup or salad. We had one each to share in between us, both of which are just mediocre, but fair nevertheless. Portion is huge, so yes, we both left with a happily filled stomach, pretty certain that this place still tops our list when it comes to Italian food.

We used to come here a lot for lunch when I worked in Farmington. The food is OK and they have a photo of Andrea Bocelli cooking in their kitchen. I commented to my co-worker that it's probably a bad idea to have him chopping vegetables in a restaurant kitchen. My co-worker thought that was mean- just because he was a singer didn't mean he couldn't cook. I told him Andrea Bocelli is blind. I think my co-worker ended up seeing it my way.

Someone suggested to stop at Antonio's for a pizza after a Fri HS football game. it's located in a mall, parking not an issue as most of the stores were closed. A few people in and looked like they just had some type of party finish in a corner room. Four of us were seated quickly, in a corner booth, very cramped and the bench seats were well worn as they were very soft and sank down. Menu is extensive maybe too much so. Ordered the Antonio's Special, large, hand tossed, essentially a works pizza, an antipasto salad, and drinks Manhattan Perfect, and glasses of wine. Waiter was difficult to understand one of the teens said he sounded like gang member. Drinks came, tasted good. Antipasto salad and bread, came quickly, quite large it seemed, salad not in a bowl but a platter so that may have made it seem larger. Nicely seasoned but I did not like how the lettuce was cut. Very long one inch wide strips. Not easy to put on your fork let alone in your mouth. Bread was good maybe a little to oily/ not quick a buttery taste. Before even being half way done with the salad the waiter was already pushing new plates on us for the pizza, which came moments later, a bit quick and rushed. Pizza was nice looking tasted OK but nothing special or especially tasteful that I have not tasted elsewhere or made on my own. Some of the toppings were just out of box not fresh. Then I decided to try the Virgin First Press Olive Oil placed on the table. Poured some on my bread plate, dipped, the taste was bland, added some salt and pepper not much of an improvement. Will I go back? I may go to try some other dish, waiter was so so, and definitely better pizza elsewhere especially for the price. Recommend seating at a table not a booth.

This place has to be one of the better more bang for your buck places out there. The portions are really big and before you get your entree you are almost filled with all the bread that comes before the meal. The Pasta Fagioli soup is the best anywhere. I would of gave this place 5 stars it just needs some redecorating.. The hanging grapes by the bar might of been up there for years now. But great food great prices..
(4)Bill E.
Can't imagine how this place could get a 4 star review. Everything seemed to be microwaved and lacking seasoning. I honestly felt like I was on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Even the pasta tasted like the chef forgot to salt the water. Bland city! If you have ever had good Italian food you will not have a good experience here. I have had better food at Macaroni Grille and I find their food to be average at best.

Just moved to Michigan and were in need of some lunch. Found this place with my trusty yelp ap and I am so glad I did! Service was very polite, bread was amazing and the price was right. The seafood stuffed shells sounded delicious so I had to try! I was given 3 shells stuffed with cheese and seafood topped with a white sauce, it was heavenly. It was a successful first lunch out. Can't wait to come back!

You'll get real good Italian here. Homemade is the key here. You pick up on this right away as you see someone making pasta just off the lobby. We've eaten here several times and even had our rehearsal dinner here. The chicken picata was great and the pasta bolognese was superb. I know, some people say that pasta is pasta. At Antonio's it is leagues better and I am not a pasta fan. They had a Whitefish with ragu that was fork tender and not to acidic. Definitely give the fish a try here. Carb lovers will order several refills of the bread. It's that good. Pizza. Some dare say that great Italian restaurants do not stoop so low as to serve pizza. Whatever. The pizza here is way better than the Metro's fave of Buddy's. The ingredients are of the highest quality and it reflects in how the pizza tastes and looks. The crust is not too thick and not too thin. Just right. Bring the family and it will cost you, but not much more than Olive Garden. They can do singles as well as efficiently accommodate larger groups and the service does not falter. I recommend any of the house wines.

The food was great. The service was abysmal. I will not post his name, but it starts with R. We were there late on a Monday night, celebrating my wife's birthday after work. The very friendly hostesses had us seated immediately, and patiently we waited for our server. After more than 5 minutes, he finally appeared. I may have smelled him before I saw him, it was terribly obvious the reason for the delay was a smoke break. We placed our order immediately, for fear he would not return. The bread and food came out quickly, but my wife's soda was not refilled until more than 10 minutes after the food was out. Again, it smelled as though the delay was related to a smoke break. I made the mistake of not requesting the check at this point, and it was another 15 minutes before he was seen again. I might go back, but definitely will request a different server if this guy is still around. Be prepared.

Let me tell you...this place has the best chicken parm ever! They need to work on cooking the pasta al dente( just right). They always overcook the pasta regardless of telling them no to. But the chicken parm is delish! The bread is good too, it's got flavor. The service is just ok. Has room to improve.
